From the counter

Questions we answer more than once.

Short answers. The drawers, the bottles, and the hours each have their own page if you need the full count.

Do you print?: No. We do not print letterhead, cards, menus, or wedding suites. We do not address envelopes. A printer is a different shop. We will sell you the paper and tell you the weight, the sizing, and the grain.
Do you cut paper to a special size?: No. Letter, A5, monarch, and the cover sheet are the sizes in the drawers.
What is a quire here?: Twenty-five sheets. A ream is 500. We do not use 480. Forty sheets is counted as forty.
Can I buy one sheet, or one pencil?: Yes. A single sheet is sold from every drawer we keep. A single pencil costs more than one twelfth of a banded dozen. Both prices are on the ticket.
Which paper for iron gall?: The unbuffered 100% cotton. Not the buffered 25% bond. We will refuse the pair. The bottles are listed on the ink page.
May I dip my pen in the shop bottle?: No. We put a few drops in a vial if you want to try your own pen. The dip pen on the counter is ours, and it touches a scrap, not your letter.
Do you repair pens?: No. We will look at a nib and say if the slit has sprung. We do not replace feeds, and we do not flush a pen that froze.
Do you ship?: Not from this website. If the paper is paid for at the counter, we can hand a flat parcel to the post office and you can pay the postage there. We do not leave parcels on the sidewalk, and we do not run a checkout here.
Is a note on the site an order?: No. The form shows the words on the next page. It does not send mail and it does not keep a copy. An order is a count we confirm at the desk or by email to desk@papermoth.shop.
When are you open?: Monday to Friday, 10:00–18:00. Saturday, 10:00–17:00. Sunday locked. The last hour we start a ream is on the hours page.
Where is the door?: 24 S Clinton Street, east sidewalk, between Iowa Avenue and Washington Street. Walking directions.
Do you close for a home football Saturday?: Not by default. The sidewalk is crowded. We stay on Saturday hours unless a paper sign on the glass says otherwise.
Can I return a bottle or a quire?: Unopened ink, with the receipt, within seven days, if we still sell that bottle. Paper still in its wrap, unwritten and uncut, within seven days. A sharpened pencil, a broken envelope box, and an opened ink bottle stay sold. The full rule is on the terms.
Is the cotton made in Iowa City?: No. We sell it here. We do not claim a mill we do not run.
